Revolution! – Good for Project Management?

There’s the old adage of walking a mile in another man’s shoes to truly understanding where they’ve been. This adage applies a very basic principle – empathy.

To empathize with others is to understand their world, and view of it.  Author Roman Krznaric explains in this animation “The Power of Outrospection” how we are in a global shift from being an introspective society to an outrospective one, which requires stepping outside our comfort zones to see the whole world, as opposed to the view from our windows.  He speaks of creating a “revolution of human relationships” by being empathetic – not only people we know and interact with, but people we may never have the chance to meet.  Why?  Because research shows empathetic people have better cognition skills and a better ability to understand people, and has the potential to improve every aspect of life.  Sounds like a good approach for Project Management, right?

Hang in there with the video (it’s about 10 minutes) because not only will you gain a new view on how to work with others, but you’ll get some inspiration from some very interesting projects (“Hello Peace”).
